MELGAÇO ALVARINHO TRAIL – QUINTAS DE MELGAÇO
Melgaço, blessed with exceptional natural conditions—both in the mountainous areas and along the riverbanks—offers an ideal setting for experiences that awaken the senses and reinforce the connection with nature. Along the route, between ups and downs, plateaus and valleys, participants will find unique conditions for sports.
The trails lead athletes through some of the municipality’s most emblematic places: Roman paths and bridges, traditional villages such as Brandas, stunning landscapes over the Minho and Mouro river valleys, and a rich historical heritage, including Melgaço Castle, convents, centuries-old churches, museums, and much more.
This year, the route will cross several parishes and parish unions: Vila and Roussas, Chaviães and Paços, Fiães, Castro Laboreiro and Lamas, and São Paio—showcasing the diversity and authenticity of the region.
The rich gastronomy is another of Melgaço’s strengths. From the famous lamprey from the Minho River—an ancient fish with an unmistakable flavor—to goat raised in the municipality’s mountains, not to mention the traditional sausages, certified for their quality, everything is accompanied by the incomparable Alvarinho wine, a true ambassador of the region.
With so many reasons to visit, Melgaço invites you to discover its most genuine offerings in a welcoming and authentic environment. This year, the trails will be different and renewed, but the warmth and friendliness of our people will be the same as always.
Melgaço, a land of good people, awaits you with open arms.
